About Gregory Arnett
Much of my work continues
the artistic tradition of what I call "the big three" subjects:
portrait, landscape and still life. Since moving with my wife Ann to the
Hudson River Valley in 1999, I've been spending more and more time
painting the local landscape. The natural environment here is just too
beautiful to ignore. Every season presents new and exciting
challenges.
I like to split my time between painting outdoors “en
Plein Air”, and working in my studio, located in Marbletown, NY (about 2
hours north of Manhattan). Each manner of working teaches me more about
myself as an artist, and helps me gain a deeper understanding of the
timeless spirit of nature.
Over the years
my work has been influenced by many of the past masters of painting. Some
of the landscape artists whose work I’ve been studying recently are
Edgar Payne, George Inness and John Twachtman. I am also interested in the
study and use of historic art technique and materials such as; encaustic,
oils, drypoint, etching and aquatint (for more information on these
techniques,
please look at my "Technique" page).
In addition to the landscape painting in the main
"Paintings" page, I've also included some of the portrait and
still life studies I've done over the last few years in my
"Archive" page.

Professional information:
I
have been making and selling art and design work for over 30 years and
my artwork is included in many private and corporate collections through
out the United States and abroad..
My passion for the arts began at an early age. I studied art in public
school in Pleasanton, California, and also at colleges in Santa Cruz
and Chico, California.
I also studied the presentation (framing) and
restoration of historic canvas and paper-born artworks. But more than
anything, my artwork has been influenced by many years of study in
libraries, museums and galleries in the many places I have lived and
traveled.
In addition to making my own artwork, I have spent many years helping
other emerging artists promote their work. First in Chico, California, I
co-founded and directed the 1078 Gallery (from 1981-83); then in Venice
Beach, Calif., I co- produced open studio tours (mid-80's-90's) and
currently (2000-present), I am a co-founder and member of the
Marbletown Arts Association (www.marbarts.com) in Stone Ridge, New York.
I am also a member of the Arts Society of Kingston
Since 1999 my paintings
have been exhibited throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley area, including in
the D & H Canal Museum in High Falls (www.canalmuseum.org).
I am currently showing
with the be Gallery in High Fall, NY. (www.begallery.com).
